Blogs

According to Wikipedia, a blog (a blend of the term web log) is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

I created my blog using Blogger to teach a lesson. Using the book Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting, I created a lesson concerning homelessness. The blog was a great way to do this lesson because it gave the students a chance to use the computer but it did not take away from the authenticity of reading a trade book. The blog for this lesson was simply a list of questions for students to answer. One question even includes a link to a video which gave the students more background information about homelessness. I think the video helped the students think concretely about the issue. The blog is also a great way for teachers to communicate with students while they are at home. Blogs can be useful for ensuring that all students have access to the homework, without the hassle of lugging books back and forth between home and school.

I really enjoyed creating the blog and think it will be useful in the future.
